TMJ TREATMENT

TMJ treatment addresses a range of symptoms such as headaches, sensitivity in teeth to cold, ear pain, jaw tenderness, and clicking or popping sounds upon mouth opening. These symptoms are often associated with TMJ, also known more precisely as temporomandibular joint dysfunction. These symptoms may be related to the bite (occlusion) or an independent problem within the joint, due to bone transformation of the condyle(s) and the articular disc.

Individuals experiencing these symptoms have discovered relief through treatment provided by Dr. Sergio Rubinstein DDS at the Aesthetic Reconstruction Center. Our aim is to enhance comfort and fully restore normal function possible, employing minimally invasive and conservative treatment methods. While some patients may reach their ideal outcome, others, based on the illness's nature and stage, may focus on effective management as the primary goal.

After assessing the nature and severity of each patient's condition, the therapy is tailored accordingly. Some may benefit from a customized orthotic appliance/night guard/ NTI appliance to alleviate muscle tension and inflammation, while others may require in-depth diagnostics and dental restorations for optimal treatment. Often, patients with these problems and symptoms are referred to an Oral Surgeon for further diagnosis and evaluation.

Diagnosis and treatment of the temporal mandibular joint can be complex and we usually work with an Oral Surgeon. Understanding your current situation enable us to determine what treatment options are best for you.

The masticatory system is quite complex and understanding as conservatively as possible your clinical condition and joint changes, can help guide you to the best treatment option. Your occlusion(bite) must be clearly evaluated and determine if the jaws are not properly aligned, sometimes through growth, teeth positioning or restorative work in your mouth.

Sometimes dental treatment, orthotic splints, sleep apnea devices or referral to an Oral Surgeon must be coordinated to determine what options are available.

Airway space must be evaluated if you need extensive dental treatment, orthodontics or suspect you may have sleep apnea.

Condylar changes will alter your bite and through different diagnostic modalities, including sometimes MRI from the joint, can help us lead you to to the available options for your condition.
